Carpathian wine region is an area of vineyards, one of the largest in Slovakia. It has 12 wine-growing zones, which begin at the foot of the Little Carpathians in Bratislava and extend to Nové Mesto nad Váhom.

Modra´s vineyard region is one of the most important and most interesting in the Small Carpathian region. It is represented by the picturesque wine-growing town of Modra. Surrounded by steep, sandy and rocky soils, very diverse varieties are grown. Southern, southwestern and western slopes provide an optimal climate and soil conditions for growing vines.

The first mention of winegrowing in Modra comes from the Hallstatt period, in the 7th and 8th century BC. In the Middle Ages, the cultivation of the vine became a strong tradition thanks to German settlers. In the 16th and 17th century, the wines of the Small Carpathian region were exported to neighboring countries. In 1607, when the town of Modra was given the privileges of the royal town, a great boom started, not only in terms of wine growing, but mainly the sale of wine. For Modra, the most characteristic variety is Leánka - Girl grapes, also called Modranská Leánka. Other varieties such as Riesling Italico, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, are traditional representatives of Modra region as well. Under the town of Modra, there are also slightly sloping vineyards with clay and loamy-sandy soil, where red varieties, especially St. Laurent are grown.

The main activity of R. K. VIN MODRA is the wine sector. The company was founded and is lead by Ing. Radovan Krajčovič, who has been devoted to wine since he was 15, when he started studying at a Vine-fruit-growing highschool in Modra. Vine-growing and wine production is being done in nature, the most economical way, using only the necessary quantities of chemicals. Production is focused exclusively on processing the quality grapes grown according to the specifications of the year. Sound processing of raw materials is seeking to produce the quality wine of Modra, which provides the ultimate sensory experience for the recipient, as pleasant as possible. Vineyards are cultivated by small mechanization with a high proportion of manual work. You can feel the love of work with grapes and wine and dedication to this art after the first winemaker´s words devoted to this activity.

The tradition of vine growing and wine production in this area passed on from generation to generation. The evidence of this is the residence of this company, a historic vineyard house with 400 years old cellar, which is saturated with the spirit of history, grape processing, wine production.
